Super Mario Down Under
April 8, 1997
Spent the past week at the Sunbelt IndyCarnival Australia CART race in Surfers Paradise, Australia.
Here’s some fun information about some of the most popular people in auto racing:
Spoke with Mario Andretti who told me that his winery is about to produce wine. He shared with me all the many varieties of wine that they will produce in the future-I never realized there were so many types of wine. " The Indianapolis 500 winner told me that actor Ernest Borgnine ("The Single Guy") told him that he would like to play his father in the movie.
CART Indy Car owner Carl Haas who owns a team with Hollywood legend Paul Newman told me that he heard Bruce Willis wants to get into racing. He said Bruce doesn’t want to drive, but he would like to buy a team.
Another superstar who likes being on the sidelines in racing is CBS SportsLine contributor Joe Montana. Joe is part owner of Target/Chip Ganassi CART Indy Car Team. Last year, Joe’s first year with the team, Jimmy Vassar won the championship. Joe went from winning NFL championships to the CART Indy Car Championship. Not bad for someone’s first year in auto racing.
