Michael Jordan’s Fashion Secrets
April 3, 1997
And where does Michael Jordan, one of sports best dressed athletes get those suits….
Not only does Michael Jordan look fine on the court but off the court as well…thanks to his tailor Alfonso Burdi who told me that Michael Jordan orders four to six suits a week from the Chicago tailor. One would think that with the salary Michael is making he would just order designer suits but that is not the case according to his tailor.
Alfonso said it all started when Michael asked the Chicago Bulls trainer where he got his clothes and the trainer said he would take Michael to the tailor shop that make all his clothes.
At first Michael was hesitant about getting a custom made suit at the family owned tailor shop because he had a bad experience with a tailor in the past. but, when Alfonso, owner of the tailor shop said to MJ that he would make a custom made tailor suit at no charge—Michael figured he had nothing to lose.
When MJ tried on the suit he loved it so much he ordered seventeen suits on the spot and has been placing orders every week.
Alfonso said that Michael comes to the tailor shop with lots of ideas for his new suits--some ideas from other designers and some of his own ideas. Alfonso said Michael is really passionate about clothes.
I asked Alfonso what Michael does with all those suits. He said that he thought that Michael donated a lot of older suits to charities. if you have Michael’s measurements you’d be one lucky guy to have some of his own designed suits.
A Little of This and a Little of That…
I got to rub elbows or should I say weights with actress Geena Davis at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California . Geena, who is star of the action film "The Goodnight Kiss" is being hailed as the new female action hero star, so I guess that is why her trainer had her pumping so much iron…O.J. Simpson was recently ordered by the court to liquidate some of his personal possessions to pay his creditors—including one of his treasured momentos-the Heisman Trophy. Hey, you collectors take note—O.J.’s Heisman has the word athlete misspelled-which makes it one of a kind in more ways than one…
Controversial former college football player Brian Bosworth’s television show lasted about as long as his NFL career. After only one airing of Brian’s show "Lawless" it has been canceled by Fox. "Lawless" joins a very short list of shows in television history that have been canceled after one airing. It makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes because Fox has not canceled other shows that in my opinion deserve to be canceled after one airing…
The long awaited film "‘DoubleTeam" starring Dennis Rodman had a premiere this past weekend in Chicago to accommodate Dennis’ busy schedule with the Bulls. Some of the celebs showing face at the premiere—Dennis’ "DoubleTeam" co-star Jean Claude Van Damme, Chicago Bulls teammates Luc Longley and Ron Harper, and Billy Corrigan (actress/singer Courtney Love’s former flame) leader of the band "Smashing Pumpkins"…
Kudos to ABC Sports Chris Schenkel, a pioneer in the sports broadcast industry who recently was inducted into the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame. This writer worked for him while I was in college and I can tell you he is one of the nicest people in the business.
