ABC'S BRENT MUSBURGER AND DAN FOUTS PLAY BALL WITH ADAM SANDLER IN "WATERBOY"
ABC's Brent Musburger and Dan Fouts have broadcast many college football games and now they can add an additional bowl game to their repertoire.
"Dan Fouts and I broadcast the 'Bourbon Bowl' in the movie, 'The Waterboy'" said Musburger. "I am sure after this movie hits theaters a ticket for the 'Bourbon Bowl' will be as hot as for the Super Bowl," he joked.
Musburger, an award winning sportswriter and versatile broadcaster, summed up the plot of the film "Actor Adam Sandler's character is named Bobby Bouchard. He plays a real loser who gets a chance on a horrible, horrible football team. Unlike what you would see in most college football movies, Adam's character is a mad-dog linebacker. Henry Winkler ("Happy Days") is the coach, who inspires his team to great heights."
Former NFL Quarterback, Dan Fouts, had fun taking a shot at defensive players when he jested, "Adam Sandler's character combines all the necessary mental deficiencies needed to play defense and he is obviously from a dysfunctional family."
In the land of make believe there are bound to be differences from real life. According to the broadcasters, one fabrication was the set, "They built a press box unlike any other press box I have used. It was like a den and certainly wasn't as chaotic as we are accustomed," said Musburger.
Fouts recognized one common factor between the movie and reality. "The constant between a normal broadcast and doing a broadcast for this film is Brent's high energy. Although, I think he enjoys just about everything he does."
For Fouts, the best part of being in the film is a family matter, "My older kids love Adam Sandler. I scored major points with my kids because I got to tell them I spent the afternoon with Adam."
